About the Role

We are offering exciting opportunities across our Western Australia Iron Ore business, for people looking for an opportunity to join our business with limited or no industry experience for our fly in fly out operations.

BHP have designed site based programs to develop cultured, engaged, highly skilled and work ready employees, providing you with industry-leading training and mentoring by some of BHP's talented workforce. The roles available are FIFO from Perth 2/1 or 8/6 7/7 (Rotating Nights) depending on the site.  

We will take your experience from other industries and help you apply it to mining, Why not You? Why not now?  

The Nationally accredited certificate on offer includes:

  • Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology

About You

This opportunity is available for enthusiastic and motivated individuals who have a genuine interest in starting a career as a Telecommunication Technician. We are looking for an adaptable, positive, individuals who enjoys an active role and are open to exploring the world of mining whilst learning something new every day.

Once you have completed your Cert III - You will be responsible for supporting site based activities around:

  • Access control networks
  • AV/VC systems
  • GPS base stations
  • End user computing incl desktop support
  • Digital radio systems – Tetra
  • Fibre optic & networking 
  • Long-Term Evolution (LTE)
  • In field trailer based communications networks

Applicants wishing to apply for these BHP FIFO opportunities must meet the following criteria:

  • Have residence in Western Australia
  • Hold a C class manual driver's licence 
  • Pre Apprenticship Cert II in a relevant qualification (Desirable)
  • Experience or background in Communications/Electronics/Telstra/NBN/Industrial Electrical (Desirable)
  • Ability to attend Block Courses in Welshpool (WA) when required as part of the qualifications framework
  • Comfortable doing Nightshift
  • Strong commitment to your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proven attendance record (recent school or employment history)
  • A high commitment to safety systems and procedures
  • Enthusiasm to learn and motivation to succeed
  • Demonstrate basic administrative and/or computing skills
