About the Role

We are currently looking for a Defect Elimination Engineer/specialist to join our Fixed Plant Reliability team.  This role provides technical support, advice, and the formulation of solutions to Fixed Plant maintenance to enhance safety, reliability, availability, efficiency of maintenance strategies, and cost control.  The role is biased towards developing and implementing execution-based technical solutions and driving the right defect elimination culture for improving equipment performance and reliability. The role will also support the identification of constraints within the ore processing plant, identification of improvement opportunities and maintaining cadence on the delivery of debottlenecking execution activities.

This role will be based in Prominent Hill on a 5/2 4/3 Roster with FIFO ex Adelaide.

What You'll Do

  • Apply proven reliability engineering strategies to eliminate equipment defects identified through the Defect Elimination process
  • Lead RCA investigations for Fixed Plant failures, focusing on critical assets
  • Monitor defect trends and failure data to identify systemic issues impacting production
  • Identify processing constraints and support delivery of de-bottlenecking initiatives across both surface and underground
  • Utilise Citect SCADA, PI Vision, Ampla, GE APM, and 1SAP to drive evidence-based decision making
  • Execute high-value Field Leadership observations to verify equipment condition and maintenance quality
  • Build and sustain DE routines across all levels of Fixed Plant Maintenance, covering both underground and surface infrastructure
  • Provide technical leadership to Surface and Underground Reliability and Execution teams, empowering them to own equipment performance outcomes
  • Take end-to-end ownership of systemic reliability issues, including assessing and communicating production impact
  • Lead process improvement initiatives leveraging BOS practices
  • Maintain an overriding commitment to health, safety, and sustainable development
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across maintenance, operations, and engineering
  • Positively shape team culture in alignment with BHP Charter Values

About You 

  • Engineering degree and/or demonstrated experience in mineral processing or heavy industrial environment
  • Proficiency in lean manufacturing or Six Sigma problem-solving methodologies
  • Sound understanding of failure mode identification, equipment criticality, and maintenance strategy optimisation
  • Familiarity with Citect SCADA, PI Vision, Ampla, GE APM, and 1SAP
  • Demonstrated ability to lead reliability improvement initiatives and influence maintenance culture across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Safety-first mindset with a track record of demonstrating HSEC behaviours and speaking up
  • Strong communicator - able to present technical findings to operational, maintenance, and senior stakeholders
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to manage workload independently while contributing effectively within a team
