Rio Tinto is building a world-class Digital Products capability.

Within our company wide Information Systems & Technology function, we are building an internal software development and delivery team focussing on high value and strategic products for the digital transformation of Rio Tinto.  We are building this capability and capacity with the support of a strategic partnership with Endava, one of the world’s leading software engineering companies.

About the role

We are seeking a Delivery Lead who will be accountable for one or more products within the Digital Products Portfolio. You will be responsible for delivering prioritised value-driven features, using appropriate management techniques, collaboration, leadership and governance. This role will report directly to the Lead Delivery Lead and will liaise with the Digital Products leadership team to understand the business strategy and align the delivery to the goals that have been set for the department.

The Delivery Lead will work closely with Scrum Masters, Technical Leads, Solution Architects and will be responsible, in conjunction with the Product Owner, for defining the Product Roadmap and ensuring value is added to the business process.

Responsibilities

  • The Delivery Lead will be responsible for leading and managing one or more product teams towards successful product delivery.

  • Work directly with the business to prioritise the best value driven outcomes.

  • Build trust and confidence with the business through the predictability and quality of the product delivery.

  • Identify the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups. Translates communications/stakeholder engagement strategies into specific activities and deliverables.

  • Plan, prepare and run the Programme Increment (PI) planning sessions. This will include creating the PI Roadmap, including dependencies, and managing the risks, issues and actions that come out of the process.

  • Identify, assess and manage risks/impediments that might impact the success of the product delivery.

  • Produce product cost estimates based on technical and functional assessments.

  • Plan and implement product onboarding processes that facilitate the transition of the product from another team or build the backlog of work for a new product.

  • Produce workforce forecasts based on assessed roles required to support the product roadmap.

  • Produce and circulate the product reporting, including progress against the PI roadmap, costs (forecasts vs actuals), service level performance against service level agreements (SLAs), impediments, risks and issues.

  • Ensure the product delivery is aligned to the Agile delivery model and take responsibility for monitoring the efficiency of this and managing changes where appropriate.

  • Responsible, in conjunction with the Product Owner, for agreeing the annual and PI budgets for the product and ensuring that the agreed PI deliverables are completed within the agreed PI budget allocation.

  • Provide support and guidance on the portfolio, product, and agile processes, procedures, tools, and techniques.

  • Work with the business to recommend and help implement business process improvements.

  • Be an active member of the delivery competency bringing learnings from the product deliveries with a view to continually improving the Digital Products delivery processes.

  • Contribute to defining organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for capability process improvement.

  • Establish an understanding of business aims and, considering the requirements for implementing any change, facilitate the development of alternative processes to achieve and deliver them.

  • Lead the product team, ensuring clear understanding of the roadmap of work and providing support and encouragement to ensure that the team is engaged and informed.

About you

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification, I.e. Bachelor of Business, Project Management, IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering etc.is a plus.

  • Project Management Institute Project Management Professional (PMI PMP), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), PRINCE2 Practitioner, or any other leading Project Management certification is a plus.

  • Knowledge in Agile Scaling Frameworks (SAFe, LeSS, DAD, etc.).

  • More than 5 years of experience leading Agile program delivery within the software development and/or application management environment.

  • Experience in a consulting environment (Big 4 / MBB / Accenture etc)

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant systems/ software development lifecycles.

  • Proficient in principles, methods, techniques, and tools for effectively managing a program of projects and related activities through to the successful achievement of planned business benefits.

  • Understand methods and techniques for structured reviews, including reviews of technical diagrams, test plans, business cases, and any other key deliverables.

  • Understand principles, methods, techniques, and tools for the effective management of Agile projects from initiation through to implementation.

  • Proficient in methods and techniques for reporting progress and financial conformance.

  • Ability to absorb complex technical information and communicate them effectively at all levels to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Familiar with methods, tools, and techniques to analyse and optimize processes to improve the quality of a product or service.

  • Communicate persuasively and effectively with various stakeholders.

  • Bring strong empathetic leadership skills to build and encourage self-directed high performing teams.
