Control Systems Engineer – Perth Operations Centre

- Provide remote support to production across our RTIO operations
- Perth Airport location operating on a 3 days, 3 nights, 6 off roster

We are currently seeking a Control Systems Engineer to be based at the Perth Rio Tinto Iron Ore Operations Centre on a 3 days on, 3 nights on, 6 days off roster. There will be an opportunity to travel to site for relief coverage, in addition to rotational opportunities. This is an exciting new opportunity to provide hands on engineering to support production at RTIO mine-sites and ports remotely from the Operations Centre.
The role will require technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills, and provide both day to day guidance as well as develop and lead improvement projects. The role will be responsible for providing control systems support to the control room operators, site teams and wider control room operations team.
About the role
- Escalation and recovery from site electricians, technicians and controllers for control system and electrical asset fault diagnosis and recovery
- Provide start up and shutdown assistance
- Act as point of communication between control, operations and engineering teams, and escalate emerging control issues to appropriate personnel
- Coach and train control room operators on diagnostics and plant optimisation
- Identify and develop scopes for continuous improvement projects with controllers and communicate high value opportunities to appropriate personnel
- Execute control systems changes
- Provide assistance to site teams with roll-out, commissioning and execution for control systems changes in control room
- Controller and site support for control system issues
- Identify leading work practices and control improvements, standardise across controller group including incorporating into training systems
- Provide technical peer review controls systems support for change managements by regional team
To succeed, the candidate will need to have:
- Familiar with concepts of process control and control schemes
- Experience with industrial control systems preferably in mining
- Proficiency with Wonderware and OSI PI historians
- Proficiency in PLC and SCADA systems; Schneider Electric Unity Pro, Concept, Proworx, CitectSCADA, Wonderware Intouch
- Strong communication, written and stakeholder management skills
- Strong collaboration and negotiation skills
- Proven ability to problem solve and perform data analysis
