As a Fabrication Estimator, you will play a crucial role in our project lifecycle, ensuring accurate cost estimates and competitive bids. You'll collaborate closely with our engineering and productions teams to optimise project costs and deliver exceptional value to our clients.

This role is a 13-month fixed term contract

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of fabrication processes including welding, machining, and CNC operations.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings and CAD models.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills for precise calculations.
  • Effective negotiation and communication skills.

What your day looks like:

Cost Estimation & Budgeting:

  • Analyse blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine material, labour, and equipment costs.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for fabrication projects, encompassing metal, steel, piping, and sheet metal.
  • Account for raw materials, welding, machining, finishing, and other fabrication processes.

Material & Labour Calculations:

  • Estimate quantities of materials (steel, aluminium, etc.) required for fabrication.
  • Calculate labour hours based on welding, cutting, bending, and assembly processes.
  • Factor in subcontractor costs if outsourcing is needed.

Vendor & Supplier Coordination:

  • Obtain and compare quotes from suppliers for raw materials and outsourced services.
  • Negotiate pricing and lead times to optimise project costs.

Bid Preparation & Proposal Development:

  • Compile competitive quotes for clients, ensuring profitability while remaining market competitive.
  • Collaborate with workshop and engineering teams to refine project scopes.

Process Optimisation & Cost Reduction:

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternative materials and efficient fabrication methods.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

Software & Tools Utilisation:

  • Utilise software tools such as MS Word, Excel, and proprietary databases for cost analysis and project management.
  • Maintain databases for material prices, labour rates, and historical project data.

Risk Assessment & Contingency Planning:

  • Evaluate potential risks such as supply chain delays and price fluctuations.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies including a three-quote system and regular review of steel prices.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, revisions, and final project costs.
  • Provide detailed reports to clients and management as required.
