ABOUT PERTH OFFICE

South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This permanent position will be based in our Perth offices and involve travel to our operations. We understand and value the benefits of flexibility and operate a hybrid work model, in the office and from home.

Are you a strategic leader passionate about safety and security who wants to partner across our business to guarantee everyone goes home safe and well?

As Group Manager of Safety & Security, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in safety and security across our organisation. This functional leadership role is pivotal in fostering a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with key requirements, and driving continuous improvement in safety and security outcomes.

Reporting to the Vice President Health, Safety, Risk and Asset Management, you will: 

  • Lead a functional team of safety and security subject matter experts who provide expertise and assurance across our operations and provide insights within a matrix organisation.  You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance safety and security standards, use data and analytics to enable informed decision-making and improvements as well as deliver cultural transformation initiatives to further embed a strong safety culture across the organisation
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and capabilities and build a high-performance technical teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Oversee design, implementation, and improvement of group-wide safety and security management systems, including governance frameworks, enabling tools, critical processes, and training programs.
  • Lead safety project initiatives from conception to delivery, ensuring they meet timeline, scope, and budget requirements.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Substantial leadership experience as a Manager or General Manager in operations, health, safety and security, or business improvement, where you've effectively guided teams through meaningful, sustained change
  • Systems thinking and thought leadership in safety and security matters, applying your deep understanding of key concepts and practices to manage safety risks across operations
  • Extensive experience to influence teams at all levels, drawing on your credibility and proven track record in operational leadership
  • Expertise in establishing robust management systems that deliver results, with demonstrated success in bringing strategic safety initiatives from concept to implementation
  • Ability to build productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including remote teams and senior executives, creating effective channels for collaboration and progress

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Economics or Similar
