Heritage Officer
Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday - Friday

Based in the Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Fortescue Metal Group Perth offices, the Heritage Officer is responsible for supporting end-to-end delivery of the FFI Australia and NZ projects as well as the Fortescue Metals Group non iron ore exploration projects across Australia. Reporting to the Heritage Principal – Project Development, the Heritage Officer is a pivotal role in Fortescue’s heritage approvals team, responsible for the day-to-day internal stakeholder review and request for access to ground ensuring heritage management and protection.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Review and approval of the heritage component of Fortescue Land Management System (LMS).
- The authorisation of on-site works, in compliance with Fortescue’s management systems, to ensure compliance with the relevant State and Commonwealth legislation as well as Fortescue’s various agreements, commitments and obligations.
- Review and compilation of the heritage component of Program of Works (PoW) Approvals.
- Assistance to the Heritage Coordinators in the coordination of heritage survey requirements.
- Internal relationships; Exploration Team; Environment Team; Heritage Teams; LMS Team; GIS Team.
- External relationships; Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DMIRS); Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) and various other State Departments across Australia.
Qualifications and skills required:
- A tertiary qualification in archaeology, anthropology, environmental science, sociology or law, a related discipline or commensurate experience desirable
- 1-2 years experience in a similar role desirable
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and as a collaborative team member.
- Excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to deliver results while working on multiple projects within tight timeframes.
