People Experience is the HR Operations team within Rio Tinto. We provide frontline HR advisory support and coaching to leaders, making a real impact across our operations and functional teams.

Our team is one of the talent pathways for HR professionals looking to develop and extend their career into other areas of HR or the business. With the planned 2025 People priorities and predicted team movements, we are looking to create a talent pipeline of HR generalists that would like to join the team.

Who we’re looking for

We're seeking expressions of interest from HR professionals with advisory experience who are ready for a new challenge in 2025. If you're a true collaborator, a trusted partner and someone who enjoys working in a big team of HR professionals, these roles are perfect for you.

We have a large team of HR generalist who partner, coach and advise a range of leaders across operations and functional teams to ensure the effective implementation of Rio Tinto Human Resource policies, systems and programs.

Reporting to the Human Resources Team Lead, you will:

  • Build and foster great partnerships with portfolio stakeholders and shared service partners

  • Advise and coach leaders on employee relations matters with a focus on early intervention and people centricity

  • Contributing to HR projects, organisational and cultural change initiatives

  • Build leader capability in HR systems and processes including cyclical activities

  • Demonstrate commitment and understanding of business needs as a trusted partner

  • Be able to demonstrate depth in critical thinking, prioritisation and problem solving

  • Navigate times where there are competing priorities

What you’ll bring

  • 2+ years HR generalist experience

  • Strong knowledge of the Australian Employment Law framework and best practices for applying relevant legislation

  • Significant experience in handling complex workplace investigations and providing guidance on performance management

  • Capacity to operate effectively in a large, shared service human resources team

  • Excellent skills in stakeholder engagement, influencing, coaching, communication, negotiation and consultation

These roles support the Iron Ore group for Rio Tinto.

Iron ore is the primary raw material used to make steel. Steel is strong, long-lasting and cost-efficient – making it perfect for everything from washing machines to cars, bridges and skyscrapers.

We are one of the world’s leading producers of iron ore. Our iron ore operations in the Pilbara comprise a world-class, integrated network of 17 iron ore mines, 4 independent port terminals, a 2,000 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure.

We produce these mainstream iron ore products in Western Australia, including Pilbara Blend, the world's most recognised brand of iron ore.

The roles in our large team of HR generalists range from Perth based, Perth based with regular site travel, FIFO or residential in Karratha. We also offer flexible work arrangements.
