About the roles
Excellent opportunities exist for suitably qualified and experienced Hydrogeologists to join our Resource Development team within Rio Tinto Iron Ore. In this role, you will assist in providing hydrogeological support to our Pilbara Mine Operations and be a part of a close-knit team working together to deliver a broad array of water solutions and strategies to effectively manage precious groundwater resources; from water supply, to dewatering, to surplus management, storage, and infiltration and injection solutions.
We have an array of roles across out Perth and Site based teams, from field, operational, project and technical hydrogeology; solving challenges and problems both in the near term and long term.
Depending on the role, scope may include you will:
Drive hydrogeology and surface water management requirement on site to meet current and future production requirements.
Implement and reconcile the site Hydrogeological Conceptual model that underpins risk mitigation
Implement, monitor, and review effectiveness of dewatering and groundwater management strategies and compliance
Support targeted data collection for on-site water management decisions
Provide, support and develop technical capability in hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, field and operational hydrogeology
Delivery of short, medium and long term solution planning and execution; inclusive of operational risk evaluation & management, future development planning and studies, and field hydrogeology drill scoping and implementation.
Collaborate and connect: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture, effective communication and teamwork.
Translate RTIO’s commitment to water stewardship into tangible outcomes through delivery of strategic water planning outcomes.
Actively identify and provide timely support to water-related risks
Advocate and drive adherence to scientific method in the design and execution of hydrogeological investigations.
Provide technical guidance that is reliable, considered, transparent and defendable, clearly articulated and fit for purpose
Demonstrate the Rio Tinto values of courage, care, and curiosity
Contribute to knowledge sharing amongst Operations, Hydrogeology discipline and promote collaboration

Holds a current manual WA Driver’s license and a relevant bachelor’s degree (geology, hydrogeology, science, or engineering).
It will be beneficial if you have:
Postgraduate training in hydrogeology.
Experience navigating WA’s water regulatory environment.
Understanding of the challenges faced by underrepresented groups in mining or field-based roles.
