South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk, and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This is a permanent, full-time position, based at our new head office in Perth.

The Information Management & Protection Specialist will assist with strengthening our information security at South32. In this role, you'll work on identifying privacy risks, implementing data protection measures, and ensuring the security of our sensitive information across our digital systems.

In this role you will be responsible for developing governance processes, automating access reviews, and supporting the administration of our controlled document management system. Additionally, you will collaborate with teams across the business to help them understand and take ownership of information security practices.

Reporting to the Lead Information Management & Privacy, the Information Management & Protection Specialist's key accountabilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Assess privacy and data security risks, implement protection controls, and guide teams on their responsibilities while recommending innovative solutions to keep information secure and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Utilise Microsoft Purview and SharePoint Advanced Management to safeguard information, develop automated access checks, and establish governance frameworks for emerging technologies, including generative AI.
  • Support teams transitioning to the Controlled Document Management System through training materials, migration coordination, day-to-day administration, and the development of resources that promote the effective and secure use of approved information management systems.
  • Stay current with privacy and information management trends, legislation, and regulatory requirements, while helping information owners understand their role in protecting organisational information assets and adapting to changing compliance landscapes.

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Working knowledge of enterprise data protection, security policy development, scripting, or system administration is highly valued.
  • Exposure to technical tools for SharePoint Administration, Microsoft Purview, and Data Loss Prevention.
  • Experience with, or a willingness to learn, Information Management and Privacy best practices for large, global organisations.
  • A thoughtful problem solver who enjoys analysing situations and finding creative solutions, with a natural ability to spot opportunities for improvement and keep projects on track.
  • Collaborative learner that’s curious about technology and security frameworks, loves working with diverse teams, and has a gift for helping others understand complex topics in simple terms.
  • Adaptable team player who works well with changing priorities, focuses on quality outcomes, and builds positive relationships while maintaining a customer-first approach.

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Tertiary qualified in Business, Information Management, Information Technology or related discipline (desirable)
