Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell.  The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health, Safety and Training Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for the proactive and effective management of injuries and the development of return to work plans in collaboration with key stakeholders. You will be the first point of contact for injured workers and support them through their treatment and return to work. This role will also be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing specific early intervention strategies to manage escalation of injuries
  • Referral for assessment, initial treatment and follow up of injuries including providing specialist advise to leaders and HST team
  • Providing specialist coaching and advice to the workforce regarding injury management and early intervention
  • Developing, maintaining and monitoring return to work plans
  • Establishing and effectively maintaining injury management and return to work records
  • Monthly reporting on injuries, progression and key issues relating to injury management and return to work
  • Developing, maintaining and managing corporate and site health programs
  • Developing, maintaining and managing mental health programs 
  • Maintaining an effective relationship with key stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Effectively managing and ensuring compliance with health monitoring schedules for employees
  • Completion of annual workplace injury reporting to the Resources Regulator
  • Providing payroll with workers compensation reporting each fortnight
  • Available outside of standard business hours, including weekends, to support key stakeholders and assist with worker injuries and return-to-work (RTW) matters

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Return to Work Coordinator qualification (mandatory)
  • Previous experience in a Health/Injury management role in the Mining or Heavy Industry (essential)
  • Previous experience with Coal Mines Insurance (desirable)
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively build relationships and influence key stakeholders
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to effectively manage tasks
  • Working knowledge of regulations and requirements relating to Coal Mines Insurance, Workers Compensation and Injury Management
