About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager Mine, this is a role with significant remit leading a team of 350 employees plus Contracting Partner within BHP Olympic Dam.
This role will see significant interfaces with the Mining Production and Mining Services department in this complex operation, whilst also highly visible to the broader Leadership groups of Olympic Dam.
You will provide leadership and functional expertise in a broad range of areas, including fixed-plant, UG Ore Handling System and Electrical infrastructure and build a cohesive group through deep, foundational team development.
This role is based at our Olympic Dam mine site on 5/2, 4/3 basis and can be offered as FIFO ex-Adelaide or Residential.
In this role you will:
- Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader by engaging, developing and coaching your team whilst ensuring an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
- Build business partnerships and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to the business
- Positively shape culture in alignment with the BHP Values
- Lead and develop a team of technical and operational maintenance professionals
- Identify, build and develop team capability through ongoing and regular coaching and development
- Build effective relationships across multiple mine departments to support the delivery of improved reliability and production
- Encourage and promote continuous improvement by constantly looking for opportunities to improve work practices and procedures, championing BOS
About You
Your demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring large, multidisciplinary teams in a complex operational environment will contribute to your success in this role.
Exceptional maintenance expertise complimented by a diverse operational mining background will certainly be advantageous. Excellent communication and influencing skills will enable you to quickly establish effective and collaborative relationships while your focus on safety leadership, continuous improvement, inclusion, and risk management will ensure the existing culture of safety excellence and optimal operational delivery is maintained.
In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:
- A background in Fixed Plant Asset maintenance and management within a similar operational environment.
- An engineering and/or trade qualifications within a relevant engineering or maintenance discipline
- Foundational leadership experience and engagement of teams that support high quality and engaged delivery
- Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with financial and commercial acumen
- The ability to engage and find positive outcomes with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience and knowledge working across a broad range of disciplines including HSE, Commercial, Supply, Contract Management and Operations
- Well-developed engagement skills with an interest in providing leadership, stewardship, support and solutions
