About the Role

Reporting to the Manager Engineering Western Australia Major Projects (WAMP), you will lead a team focused on leading engineering strategies, standards and frameworks that ensure the engineering process and design is optimized and enables safe, efficient construction, commissioning and operation. This is a Perth based position offering exceptional levels of flexibility.

In this role you will lead the team to:

  • Provide technical support to the WAMP Portfolio of Projects

  • Conduct engineering governance and assurance activities ensuring the project meets technical, functional, and business requirements

  • Conduct engineering tasks, verify construction methodologies and advise on engineering decisions for projects in alignment with Project/Construction/Commissioning Engineering Standards

  • Employ specific/relevant discipline engineering expertise and leadership to meet BHP's technical expectations

  • Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes

  • Mitigate risks across the value chain, in alignment with public policy and our sustainability and climate commitments

  • Apply existing engineering knowledge and principles to facilitate development of alternative solutions for projects, problems and opportunities to maximize capital efficiency

  • Work with the business to align project deliverables and Basis of Design (BoD) activities to Engineering standards

And you will:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the wider Minerals Australia Projects group to share lessons learned, provide technical support and mentoring

  • Coach and develop the team to deliver high performance

  • Champion engineering effectiveness within and outside the WAMP portfolio of projects

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and to standardise new ways of working and encourage team members to do the same

  • Establish plans and priorities to stretch the team to achieve high performance, while adapting them in response to customer needs and evolving risks and opportunities

About You

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering  

  • Demonstrated strong understanding of project and/or design engineering, with a deep understanding of engineering standards and their application to large infrastructure and mining projects 

  • Demonstrated experience leading technical professionals with strong subject matter expertise 

  • High level of communication and influencing skills, including the ability to produce quality, concise reports and presentations to senior executives 

  • Demonstrated technical and commercial acumen  

  • Highly influential with strong engagement skills to generate ideas and lateral solutions 

  • Promotes inclusion and understanding 

  • Builds team capability through coaching, providing continuous feedback and leveraging strengths to build trust and increase performance 

  • Understands the impact of leadership shadow and casts it accordingly 

  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste
