This is a terrific opportunity to join our senior leadership team as Manager Technical and play a critical role managing the delivery of refining functions that enables the safe and productive operations. We’re looking for an experienced leader to help build on our success and focus on the next level of safety, efficiency and productivity benefits across our Yarwun Refinery. This opportunity will see you positively leading and influencing whilst working with a diverse stakeholder group. You’ll be leading a multidisciplinary team of professionals specialising in process control, process engineering, laboratory and production planning.

Reporting to the General Manager and working in a challenging and exciting environment within Aluminum, you will:
Lead the team to effectively monitor and manage the technical aspects of the refinery operation.
Develop criteria for selecting and evaluating equipment, processes, and for making modifications to plant, equipment, facilities, etc.
Directs processing studies and evaluations for proposed improvements or changes in the processing operations.
Maintain a current awareness of research and development in processing technologies.
Selects, prioritises, sets timing and allocates initiatives to leadership teams.
Initiates technical reviews, workshops, cross-audits and exchanges.
Undertakes the strategic planning for operations and projects.
Approves or leads global business unit production plan considering quality, cost, volume and HSE requirements.
Sets objectives, evaluates performance, coaches and develops leaders.
What you’ll bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Refinery and/or alumina experience
Tertiary qualifications in Chemical or Process Engineering
Experience in leading large multi-disciplinary teams in a complex technical environment
Strategic thinking: deep strategic thinking and numerical/analytical skills. Able to maintain perspective and switch between strategic and tactical priorities quickly
Judgement: able to identify and frame complex issues and opportunities quickly, and bring to resolution with a solid ethical framework
Stakeholder engagement: ability to develop productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills: ability to frame and convey complex messages to a range of stakeholders using a wide range of communication methods

Where you’ll be workingLocated in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.Yarwun is a proud member of the Gladstone community, and along with Boyne Smelters Limited and Queensland Alumina Limited, support community investments that improve the liveability of the Gladstone region through the Here for Gladstone community fund.
