Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Yarrabee Coal is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Mining Manager to lead our production team through the next phase of operational excellence and cultural transformation. Reporting to the Operations Manager/SSE, this role is pivotal in driving safe, efficient and value-focused mining operations while developing our next generation of site leaders. We are looking for a hands-on, values-driven leader — someone who has successfully led transformational change, built engaged and accountable teams and delivered sustainable operational improvement.

As the Mining Manager, you will:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of coal recovery, mining and delivery to processing, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective production.
  • Oversee a large operational workforce, directly leading Production Superintendents and indirectly influencing approximately 300 personnel.
  • Implement clear systems, structures and routines that embed the Yarrabee Operating Model and deliver consistent results.
  • Champion Yancoal’s values and foster a performance-based, inclusive culture built on engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with other departments to optimise mine planning, resource allocation and operational outcomes.
  • Develop, coach and uplift capability across Supervisors, Superintendents and Emerging Leaders.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated success implementing lasting operational and cultural change.
  • Strong leadership presence — capable of engaging teams, setting clear expectations and following through with consistency.
  • A practical mindset, with a focus on safety, discipline and delivery.
  • Solid financial and business acumen with experience managing budgets and cost control.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the workforce.
  • Technical proficiency to provide coaching and problem-solving support for production challenges.
  • Advanced risk awareness and a proactive safety leadership style.
  • SSE qualifications (or eligibility to obtain or working towards) highly desirable.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline, will be well regarded.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and associated regulations.
