Supervisor Mining

Work Location: Eliwana – Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama people.

Roster: 7D/7N/7R – ex Perth or Busselton

Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, our Eliwana operation is seeking suitably qualified, highly experienced Mining Supervisors. Mining Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of Load & Haul functions of conventional open pit mining operation. The role is focused around leading a team of committed people who share a vision of being the safest and most efficient Mining Team.

Key accountabilities will include:

  1. Safety
  • Provide visible safety leadership by demonstrating safe behaviours all the time and displaying Fortescue values
  • Provide and maintain safe systems of work in mining operational areas
  • Provide and maintain a safe workplace as per WA Mine Safety and Inspection Act/Regulations and Fortescue HSEC system
  • Ensure employees understand and comply with safe systems of work
  • Conduct thorough investigations into workplace incidents and provide effective feedback to work teams
  • Proactively participate in Occupational Health and Safety activities and consultation processes across Mine Operations
  • Carry out supervisor responsibilities under Section 44 delegated authority as per WA Mine Safety & Inspection Act and Regulations
  1. Production
  • Support Mining Coordinator to provide input into mine planning processes to ensure mining plans are achievable and allow for efficient mining.
  • Communicate with Mine Control, Mine Production Engineer, Blend Coordinators, Mining Superintendents, and Mining Coordinator to execute the daily mine plans safely and efficiently
  • Manage effective utilisation of mining fleet
  • Identify and respond to threats to the mine plan
  • Review mine production reports and identify improvement opportunities
  1. People
  • Safe and effective supervision of a load and haul production team of up to 25 people
  • Coach, mentor and develop mining operators and other production crew
  • Manage expectation setting and performance reviews of team members in fair and transparent manner
  • Supporting Mining Superintendents to attract and retain skilled and committed load and haul team members
  • Manage short interval control process to drive Supervisor compliance to the mine plan
  • Ensure compliance with HR management policies and procedures (leave, injury management, performance, etc.)

 Qualifications and skills required:

  • Considerable experience in a Mining Supervisor or Leading Hand role
  • Extensive experience in operating heavy mining equipment in large scale open pit environment
  • Strong leadership experience and ability to engage and empower large teams 
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Proven commitment to safety
  • Frontline Leadership qualification or similar desired but not essential
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Strong understanding of efficiency drivers in a large-scale mining operation
  • Knowledge of WA Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Regulation
