About Prominent Hill

Prominent Hill is a well-established copper-gold operation within BHP’s Minerals Australia portfolio, with a strong future and ongoing investment.

Located 650km north-west of Adelaide, the site operates across underground and surface mining on an 8/6 FIFO roster.

A major shaft project is supporting underground expansion and extending mine life to at least 2040, creating long-term opportunities across the operation.

It’s a technically complex site where you can build your skills, take on new challenges, and be part of a team where safety and looking out for each other matters.

We currently have a vacancy for an Operator Mine Control Underground, reporting to the Mine Control Team.

The Challenge Ahead

As an Operator Mine Control Underground, you will be at the centre of daily mining operations, helping to coordinate underground and surface activities that keep our people safe and our operation running efficiently.

Working within a fast-paced control room environment, you will use real-time information, operational systems and stakeholder collaboration to support production outcomes while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance. This is an opportunity to apply your underground mining knowledge in a role where communication, decision-making and situational awareness are critical to success.

You will work closely with operators, supervisors, technical teams and site stakeholders to manage operational priorities, respond to changing conditions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the operation.

This is a permanent FIFO opportunity from Adelaide or Port Augusta, working an 8 days on, 6 days off, 7 nights on, 7 nights off roster.

What You'll Bring to the Role

You are an experienced mining professional with a strong understanding of underground operations and an interest in coordinating complex activities in a control room environment.

You will bring:

  • Previous underground mining experience, ideally within production operations.
  • Experience in a mine control room or a simillar operational coordination role will be highly regarded.
  • Strong computer literacy, including experience using Microsoft Office and operational monitoring systems such as Citect.
  • Well-developed communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the confidence to make decisions in dynamic operating environments.
  • A high level of attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a calm and professional approach.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on teamwork, continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • A demonstrated commitment to health, safety and risk management principles.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Mine Control team, you will:

  • Coordinate and dispatch the underground haulage fleet in line with operational priorities.
  • Monitor underground and surface activities to support safe, efficient and productive mining operations.
  • Maintain accurate operational data and reporting, including validating updates requested by stakeholders.
  • Monitor equipment, machine and location statuses to support daily production performance.
  • Manage hazard registers, signage requirements and surface cone registers.
  • Oversee underground infrastructure monitoring through Citect systems and coordinate responses to faults or issues.
  • Support emergency response activities and assist in coordinating responses to unplanned underground events.
  • Monitor geotechnical systems and open pit wall stability reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate underground loader servicing activities and manage surface fleet information.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, operator coaching and pre-start presentations.
  • Assist with projects focused on operational monitoring and performance improvement.
  • Support IT fault logging and basic troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain compliance with operational procedures, safety requirements and site standards.

Work Location

This role is based at Prominent Hill on a FIFO basis from Adelaide or Port Augusta.

The roster is 8 days on, 6 days off, followed by 7 nights on, 7 nights off, providing a balance between meaningful work and time away from site.
