Where you will be working
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto as its major shareholder. ERA, established in 1979, previously mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, surrounded by, but currently separate from, Kakadu National Park.
ERA’s mining and processing operations on the Ranger Project Area ceased in January 2021, with the major focus now shifting to the comprehensive world-class rehabilitation of the Ranger mine that will eventually allow it to be incorporated back into the Kakadu National Park should the Traditional Owners and the Commonwealth Government wish. The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is the largest project of its kind in Australia and possibly the world. It is unique in that it is rehabilitating land in one of the world’s most culturally and environmentally sensitive locations, surrounded by the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on the land of the Mirarr Traditional Owners, located 3 hours southeast of Darwin. In February 2022, ERA announced that the revised total cost of completing the Ranger mine rehabilitation was estimated to be approximately between $1.6bn and $2.2bn and will continue until 2028. ERA incurred an expenditure of $194m on rehabilitation activities in 2022.
ERA is an independently managed and agile organisation. ERA has its own Board and has formed several strategic partnerships with industry experts, including Bechtel, a leading global engineering and construction firm, to assist in delivering a successful project outcome. A team of 220 employees and contractors is undertaking rehabilitation activities and supporting a feasibility study update. The project feasibility study, originally completed in 2018, is now being refreshed, supported by Bechtel as a delivery partner, to work out a revised methodology and associated cost and schedule to rehabilitate this site.
Applications close Friday 11, July 2025.
