About the Role

The BHP HEMS Paramedic / RN is equivalent to similar role titles of Flight Paramedic-Nurse or Retrieval Paramedic-Nurse.  Note that at BHP, Paramedic and Registered Nurse roles are equivalent in terms of Scope of Clinical practice, so suitable Paramedics and RN’s are encouraged to apply.

As a key member of the WAIO Emergency Management team, in the capacity of HEMS Paramedic-RN you will be tasked with providing Emergency Medical response on the BHP Medical Helicopter which operates on a 24/7 basis providing care to BHP Employees, Key stakeholders, and also supports community medical emergencies, aeromedical retrievals and search and rescue missions.

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Provide 24/7 Pre-hospital care on the BHP HEMS service and aeromedical retrieval of appropriate patients to an appropriate hospital. (Roster is dayshift with on call and required fatigue management)
  • Providing medical support, governance, education, mentoring and training to other BHP clinical staff across our WAIO operations.
  • As a key member of the BHP Clinical Governance committee, you will assist with the provision of suitable clinical governance across WAIO assets. This will include participation in audits, site reviews, investigations, managing SOCP (Scope of Clinical Practice) and developing Clinical Policy and Procedure.
  • Provide clinical consultation/advice via the BHP Telehealth Service from 0600-1700 to all BHP Medical staff and reduces costs by ensuring that escalation to Telehealth is used appropriately. 

About You

To be successful in this role you will be a highly collaborative and autonomous professional. You possess highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with key people across multi-functional teams.

In addition, we are looking for the following skills and experience:

  • Current AHPRA registration (Paramedicine or Registered Nurse) with no conditions or restrictions which would impact your ability to achieve the required Scope of Clinical Practice (SOCP - HEMS Paramedic)
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience, ideally in a state or territory Ambulance Service – applicants must have clinical practice within the last 12 months and be able to provide evidence of their SOCP.
  • Whilst not mandatory, aeromedical experience, ICP-CCP qualifications, aeromedical qualifications, Practitioner qualifications, Cert IV TAE are highly desirable.  The required training and mentoring will be provided to the successful candidate.
  • Strong understanding of, and exposure to, clinical governance processes and systems
  • Exposure and experience to training development and delivery is highly desirable.
