The Principal Advisor Process Improvement Lead (PIL) partners directly with the Finance service delivery teams and business partners to ensure strong governance and quality of our financial information. Predominantly we need you to be an expert lead on the project as we move toward a new version of SAP.

The Process Improvement Leads in the Finance team are trusted partners, collaborating closely with the business to ensure needs are met.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong technical skills to become a trusted partner and be an integral part of our transformation journey towards our vision.

Providing support to Finance operations as they manage the processes that deliver services to our customers. This support includes: 

  • Expert support for complex transactions that require a higher level of SAP knowledge to achieve product costing, planning, customer profitability analysis, etc.
  • Advising on approach to extraordinary transactions 
  • Diagnosing problems and providing guidance on data use and best practice data extraction for ad hoc reporting requirements
  • Provide guidance and oversight on the configuration of our systems including cost models and master data management
  • Quality assurance for all PAM master data and ensuring the process for managing PAM master data is working correctly, including actions required for sensitive requests
  • Participating in process design and governance for Rio Tinto Finance

The position requires a significant portion of time to be dedicated to leading, designing and implementing changes to adapt Finance processes to changing business circumstances. This includes providing subject matter expertise to other projects in the Business Improvement space and leading cross-service line work, as well as working with stakeholders outside Group Services, to deliver improvements in areas which span multiple streams.

What you'll bring: 

To be successful in this role, you will bring your expertise in accounting/finance, your technical skill set will be integral specifically your experience in SAP. Your curiosity, collaborative style and growth mindset are an important part of succeeding as a Process Improvement Lead.

This role will additionally require your:

  • Comprehensive understanding of finance business processes including month-end close activities
  • Understanding of Mining Operations and main value drivers in mining and processing
  • Business Improvement capabilities, matching the technical solution to business requirements
  • Strong project management skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills required to drive a valuable business outcome
  • Demonstrated experience in RT Data Warehouse, SAP and HFM
  • Significant experience in financial operations with demonstrated history of leading change to improve metrics
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance or a business related area

It will be advantageous for you to also hold an accounting certification CPA. This role is global, therefore it will be beneficial if you have a basic level of French language, though not required.

This role is offered in the location of Perth, Western Australia, the Brisbane hub may also be considered as a location. We support and encourage flexible work arrangements.

This role is part of the Group Services Finance & Accounting Services, Business Improvement team; this is a global team with members across all our major hubs. The role will require close partnership, interactions and alignment with other improvement and operational delivery teams, particularly in Montreal, Delhi and Perth.
