King of the Hills (KOTH) is the flagship operation of Vault Minerals Limited and one of the largest gold mines in Australia. Undergoing significant expansion, KOTH is nearing completion of a 7.5 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) processing plant (previously 5.2Mtpa), providing a solid platform for long-term production growth. This dynamic operation combines open-pit and underground mining, with exciting exploration activities driving the future. KOTH is located approximately 900 km northeast of Perth and 25 km north of Leonora, within the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Underground Production Engineer supports daily production activities and contractor management to ensure weekly schedule commitments are achieved. The role is responsible for developing safe, cost-effective mine designs that support continuous ore production and underground mining operations. As required, the incumbent will act as the statutory Ventilation Officer in accordance with Schedule 26, Clause 11 of the Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022.

This position will be offered on a 14:14 FIFO roster from Perth.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Ability to receive, interpret, and effectively implement instructions from Senior Engineers, while communicating and collaborating professionally with Technical Services personnel and contractors to achieve operational objectives.
  • Supervise and audit underground production and ventilation activities to ensure safety and production objectives are met.
  • Follow, review, and provide feedback on production and ventilation processes to support safe, efficient, and consistent mine operations, while delivering assigned tasks safely and on schedule.
  • Ensure accurate production reconciliations are completed, summary reports prepared, and any production improvements are promptly evaluated, and applicable changes implemented.
  • Effectively manage change through documented change management processes.
  • Regularly challenge, review and optimise mine production and ventilation systems, in consultation with the Senior Production Engineer.
  • Ensure all requirements acting as the Underground Ventilation Officer are dutifully undertaken.
  • Monitor mining contractor performance in line with the contract, mine plan and approved practices and procedures to ensure safe and cost-effective operation.
  • Assist with end of month data collection and reconciliation processes.

About You:

  • Degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in an underground mining environment.
  • Completed the required undergraduate practical experience for WA FCMMCC eligibility, including hands-on experience with primary and secondary mine ventilation systems and a strong understanding of statutory mine ventilation requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of the statutory requirements of the Western Australian Mining Act and Regulations, as well as the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, complemented by excellent analytical abilities and a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines with effective time management.
  • Proficient use and application of MS Office suite, and relevant mining software Deswik Suite.
  • Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class).
