Title: Project Controls Lead – Rail

Work location: Perth based (Hazelmere)

Roster: 5/2 Roster (Mon to Fri)

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key projects is the Infinity Train which will harness gravitational energy and utilise regenerative battery electric technology to remove reliance on charging infrastructure. The Infinity Train project will significantly contribute to FFI becoming a major OEM in the growing global market for green industrial transport solutions. Based out of our new Hazelmere R&D facility and reporting to the green fleet development Project Manager – Infinity Train, we are presently looking for an experienced Project Controls Lead.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Establish and lead the Project Controls function including, cost analysis/control/forecasting, scheduling, issue management and change management activities.
  • Assist Project Manager with the safe delivery of project on schedule, to budget and to specification
  • Working with a team including cost controller and scheduler, manage the project controls function to achieve project objectives
  • Lead the project change management process and facilitate assurance activities to ensure the process is adhered to
  • Lead change management activities including co-ordination of change management forums, documentation of change, tracking and reporting change metrics, support engineering team members to identify change, align stakeholders and process change through the system
  • Lead preparation of gateway declaration papers
  • Support issue management activities including support of issue reviews, tracking and reporting issue metrics, support engineering team members to capture, update and close-out issues.
  • Manage the project schedule, taking appropriate action to deliver on stretch targets and identify and support actions to maintain critical path.
  • Working with the project cost controller, establish and implement cost control processes at a package level across the project and report out performance at a package level as well as overall project
  • Review and report on costs against the overall financial performance of the project, taking appropriate action to exhibit frugality to achieve agreed targets
  • Preparation of project information for general manager / director consumption including routine and adhoc reports.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • 10+ years’ experience in a lead project controls position on complex engineering projects.
  • Experience in product development and/or rail environments are highly desirable.
  • Project Management qualifications or equivalent industry experience is desirable.
  • Commercial, Engineering, Financial and/or Business Administration qualifications are desirable.
  • Well-developed communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to foster interpersonal relationships across all levels
