About the role

Are you ready to take on an exciting new challenge? We are seeking a dynamic Risk Business Partner to join our Brisbane Hub Risk Area of Expertise (AoE) team. In this role, you will support a Product Group or Business Unit team with Risk and Assurance governance, process, insight and general risk support to aid leaders with a view of their risk profile, and how this supports decision making. You will also undertake work for the broader Risk AoE across Rio Tinto as required, so a willingness to travel occasionally is desired. The Risk AoE partners with our business to embed risk management into Rio Tinto’s core processes and decision-making, to create and protect value, future prospects, and reputation in line with our values of care, curiosity, and courage.

This role is a great opportunity for an individual with a strong partnership mindset who understands the value of considering risk and uncertainty in decision making, through constructively challenging and bringing insight to management.  The right candidate recognises the importance of the organisation meeting its corporate and legal obligations effectively, while securing value-adding opportunities and managing threats that could impact achieving objectives, including protecting people, assets and reputation.

Reporting to the Brisbane Hub Risk Lead, you will:

  • Contribute to and review analysis and interpretation of risk information to develop insights to inform business operations and decision making.

  • Facilitate risk workshops at a Product Group, Business Unit, Functional Support group, complex projects or at site level

  • Support and champion initiatives to drive effective consideration of risk in core decision making processes and complex problems.

  • Plan and deliver risk management programs of work.

  • Monitor risk management programs and processes to provide management with assurance that there is a sound risk management program in place.

  • Support management forums, such as senior leader meetings and risk, assurance & compliance forums

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships at various levels within the business and with external stakeholders

  • Provide coaching and support to internal stakeholders in the Rio Tinto Risk management framework, enterprise risk system and external industry recognised standards.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering, finance, or related field. Qualification in risk would also be well regarded.

  • Any of, or a combination of:

    • Proven experience working in a mining, processing or similar work environment.

    • Quantitative risk analysis, preferably for business and enterprise risk

    • Financial or business evaluation analysis in a similar industry would be well regarded.

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills

  • Problem solving mindset coupled with intellectual curiosity

  • Experience in use of technology including enterprise risk systems

  • Proven ability to work across all levels of the business

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken. French would also be beneficial
