About Saraji

The Saraji mine is an open pit coal mine located near Dysart in Queensland's Bowen Basin on the traditional lands of the Barada Barna people. It is one of Australia's largest mines, by recoverable coal reserves. Saraji mines the Moranbah Coal Measures, blending from up to 11 coal seams.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager, the Production Manager has overall accountability for Saraji’s six draglines, mine services, drill and blast and CHPP teams and will evaluate safety and operational performance and drive changes to maximise safety, cost and volume performance through processes, equipment, and technology initiatives. This role will see significant interfaces with the Load and Haul and Mine Planning departments in this technically complex and large-scale operation, whilst also highly visible across site as a part of the Saraji site leadership team (SLT).   

You will provide leadership and functional expertise in a broad range of areas and build a cohesive group through deep, foundational team development. 

About You

Previous leadership in mining operations is essential, ideally coupled with exposure to mine planning and/or compliance. The following skills and qualifications would be highly regarded: 

•    Site Senior Executive (SSE) certificate of competency will be highly regarded or commitment to gain this qualification, OR •    Open Cut Examiners (OCE) certificate of competency, OR •    Degree qualification in Mining Engineering will be highly regarded, AND •    Extensive leadership experience and engagement of teams that support high quality and engaged delivery, AND •    Experience implementing continuous improvement strategies with financial and commercial acumen, AND •    The ability to engage and find positive outcomes with internal and external stakeholders, AND •    Experience and knowledge working across a broad range of disciplines including HSE, Commercial, Supply, Contract Management and Operations  

This role has the following responsibilities:

•    Supervises operational activities (e.g. mining, production, plant) to enable the delivery of continuous safe operations; •    Identifies risks, makes risk adjusted/informed decisions and implements BHP's risk management framework to support safe and productive performance outcomes; •    Prioritises work effort and resources accordingly; •    Drives organisation, cultural and innovation change for the operation; •    Manages relationships between the Production sub-functions; •    Leadership of a large, diversified workforce; •    Liaising with Mine Planning and helping develop the long term operational strategy of the mine.
