Reporting to the Director of Global Sustainability and External Affairs, and working closely with the CEO and Director Communities, Approvals and Services, this person is responsible for delivering all elements of Government Relations support to Fortescue’s businesses across Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain political awareness and relationships particularly Western Australia and Canberra, and global awareness of regional impacts.
- Provide government relations advice for identified projects and the offtake/marketing of electrons, hydrogen and materials.
- Act as trusted advisor to senior leaders and an active member of the regional leadership team.
- Lead and/or support the engagement of governmental and other political stakeholders to facilitate Fortescue’s projects and operations.
- Provide advice to the project and regional teams on identified political risks and the development of associated mitigation plans.
- Support teams to develop and take forward advocacy plans to promote Fortescue projects and secure required government support and incentives.
- Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of energy, hydrogen, and mining related policies and regulation in Western Australia, Australia and the APAC region.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders as they engage with external political stakeholders.
- Prepare government relations communications and materials for political stakeholder engagement.
- Lead a team government relations professionals fostering a high-performance, collaborative and values-driven culture.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification (Law, Economics, Policy or Politics desirable.)
- Significant government relations experience within the energy and/or mining sector, and/or a background working in government and policy formulation.
- Experience of working with a diverse range of people across all levels including government officials and senior business leaders across Australia.
- Proven track record of building strong governmental relationships.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a diverse range of people in a professional manner, representing the company.
- Ability to navigate and coordinate across a complex internal environment
