About the role

Reporting to the Director of PBS Operations, the Senior Manager Global Payroll Process and Systems is the subject matter expert in a pivotal leadership role delivering effective operations and continuous improvement of Peabody’s payroll processing and HRIS systems globally.

Based in Brisbane, you will be a critical member of the Peabody Business Services (PBS) team and work in close collaboration with HR, Mine Site Operations, IT, and governance functions.

This role is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll outcomes through scalable and innovative systems, while leading a high performing team and enhancing stakeholder confidence in our global payroll operations.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the payroll and HRIS function across Australia and the United States, establishing clear direction and performance goals.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, system integrity, and adherence to relevant tax, compliance, and labour regulations.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for service or operational payroll issues with the ability to quickly identify and solve complex business process and technical challenges.
  • Drive the standardisation and continuous improvement of payroll practices and processes.
  • Partner with governance, transformation, and IT teams to deliver scalable solutions and enhance the employee experience.
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and audit requirements.
  • Collaborate with outsourcing partner to monitor performance and resolve issues in line with service level expectations.
  • Engage regularly with site management and employees to identify service gaps and deliver process improvements.
  • Lead a high performing team with a focus on coaching, development, and positive team culture.
  • Oversee payroll related budgeting, financial planning, and workforce resourcing.
  • Leverage technology and data to support decision making, efficiency, and paperless operations.

The lifestyle:

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday basis, working from our Fortitude Valley office with working from home options. Peabody offers flexible start / finish times and a ‘redistributed working week’ giving employees flexibility to finish at noon on Fridays.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Information Systems or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Wealth of experience leading large scale, multi site payroll functions, preferably in an international setting.
  • Deep expertise in end to end payroll operations including compliance, system integration, tax, regulatory reporting, and internal controls.
  • Strong knowledge of SAP, SuccessFactors, UKG and similar HR/payroll systems.
  • Experience managing customer service delivery, including 5+ years in leadership roles with cross-functional stakeholder management.
  • High level analytical, project management, and decision-making skills, with a continuous improvement mindset (Six Sigma or similar knowledge preferred).
  • Demonstrated success in driving strategic outcomes and leading teams through change.
  • Ability to work cross-culturally and communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation.
  • A passion for delivering excellence in employee experience and payroll performance.
