We are looking for a Senior Specialist Data Scientist who will work as part of a larger group of domain experts (engineers and scientists) that provide technical services, assurance, and governance to our product group’s mining, refining and smelting operational assets across the east coast of Australia and New Zealand.

This is a great opportunity for a Data Science enthusiast with a background/early career in engineering & analytics to support our primary east coast product offering.

Reporting to the Manager Advanced Analytics and working in a collaborative community, within the Advanced Data Analytics team, you will be:

  • Leading complex data analysis projects and developing fit-for-purpose advanced analytical/predictive models
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven decision-making and manage technical risks
  • Upskilling, mentoring and guiding team members in the application of data science across our product group
  • Contributing to the development of best practices and standards within the team

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Extensive experience in data science, with expertise in machine learning, statistical analysis, and data visualisation
  • Strong Python programming skills as well as a strong appreciation for clean code principles, testing, github and agile development
  • Familiarity with analytical packages, such as Pandas, Nump, Sci-kit learn, TensorFlow, or others
  • Familiarity with AWS or Azure
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex data analysis projects with experience writing project proposals, project status reporting, and presenting technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • An advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field will be highly regarded

We anticipate that you will likely have more than seven years of industry experience where you have been applying your analytical skills. Enthusiastic, curious, and courageous candidates with less industrial experience are encouraged to apply. We will provide you with time, training and technology exposure to develop in the role.
