About Blackwater Mine

Blackwater mine is an open cut coal mine located in the Central Queensland south of the town of Blackwater in the suburb of Stewarton. The mine has one of the largest coal reserves in Australia and the world. It produces thermal and coking coal that is sold domestically as well as being exported out of Gladstone to India, the Americas, the Middle East, East Asia and South Asia.

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Electrical Engineer within Engineering is to manage and support the engineering function for developing, evaluating and auditing the engineering blueprints (i.e. Standards, Specifications, Risk Assessments etc.). In this role you will ensure Electrical compliance with AS Standards and legislative requirements as well as providing technical support to operations on Electrical Assets. This is a full-time role based at Blackwater Mine on a 5/2 roster, offering flexible work arrangements.

Reporting to Superintendent GTS, your key responsibilities includes:

  • Provide Electrical guidance and technical support to the Engineering, Project Managers and Maintenance.
  • Review, update and approve the complete set of Electrical technical documentation (International, National & Site engineering standards, equipment standards, specifications, datasheets, procedures, programs and drawings) from which the Operation is designed, constructed, operated and maintained;
  • Support site EEM (Electrical Engineering Manager)
  • Continuous Electrical improvement of the Electrical Assets with collaboration with site and vendor.
  • Assist with project scopes development, requirements and quality criteria;
  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader
  • Partner with other Electrical Engineers to develop engineered remediation solutions
  • Engage Operational stakeholders to ensure the remediation solutions are clearly defined and analysed for minimal disturbance to Production
  • Provide technical engineering expertise to ensure solutions meet safety and design standards
  • Support the planning, safe execution, and commissioning of Asset Integrity Remediation packages according to agreed scope, budget, schedule, and relevant standards and specifications
  • Provide input to the reporting requirements for the execution of Asset Integrity Remediation work packages
  • Adherence to BHP Charter Values, Leadership Model and Code of Business Conduct

About You

You will have Electrical qualification - Tertiary or Tertiary + Trade (preferred) and or project management qualifications with electrical project background undertaking degree qualifications. Your interpersonal skills will foster collaborative working relationships across various teams. In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.

You will have below Skills and Experience:

  • Degree qualifications in Electrical engineering disciplines
  • Understanding of mining, processing, heavy industry or construction projects.
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Technology and PLC knowledge will be preferable.
  • Working knowledge of various Australian Standards, Regulations & relevant codes of practice.
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct, and relevant statutory obligations, relevant Australian Standards & WHSL requirements.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Organisational skills for managing functional teams, contractors and multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated technical and commercial acumen with problem solving skills.
  • Communication and influencing skills, including the ability to produce concise reports and presentations to senior managers
