About the role  

We are looking for a Specialist Electrical Engineer to join the Fixed Plant Electrical Engineering team at our Perth Operations Centre to provide technical expertise to the wider business at Rio Tinto Iron Ore. 

This role is a great opportunity to shape and influence the way the business moves with the trialling of new technology, markets and equipment. Working 5 days on, 2 off roster and reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer, you will: 

Key Accountabilities

  • Work closely with Pilbara Asset Management and maintenance teams to drive improvement

  • Provide technical support and identify replication opportunities

  • Work closely with major and sustaining capital projects, providing technical assurance and governance.

  • Own and maintain standards and whole of life strategies for LV/HV electrical equipment, including substations, switchgear, transformers, cables, motors, instrumentation..

  • Initiate strategic programmes of work for business-wide benefit

  • Coordinate and monitor support from key vendors

  • Undertake root cause analysis on significant failures on electrical assets. 

What you’ll bring   

  • Electrical Engineering Degree

  • Manual C Class Drivers Licence

  • Proven RCA and problem-solving techniques

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience as an electrical engineer in the mining industry

  • Experience across the asset life cycle, including design, specification, installation, commissioning, preventative and breakdown maintenance

  • Current knowledge of WA industry standards, legal requirements and best practices

  • Excellent networking and communication skills 

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Working knowledge of SAP and Powerfactory.

  • Familiarity with Rio Tinto Iron Ore Engineering Standards

  • Functional Safety Certification

Where you’ll be working 

Our integrated iron ore network is supported by our Operations Centre (OC) in Perth, a state-of-the-art facility that enables all the autonomous trucks, trains and drills at our mines, ports and rail systems to be operated from a single location.

The Centre incorporates visualisation and collaboration tools to provide real-time information across our demand chain and allows us to optimise our mining, maintenance and logistic activities across the Pilbara in a way never before possible. Located near the Perth domestic airport, the OC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, and ports from 1,500km away.
