About the role
The Operational Excellence team at Pannawonica is seeking an experienced Risk & Capital Specialist to provide technical expertise, support, and guidance on capital and risk, management practices across our operation. This crucial role involves developing and guiding other professionals and directly supporting leadership's decision-making processes.
You’ll be part of a supportive team, supported by your Leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You’ll work on a 5 days on, 2 days off residential or a 5 days on, 2 days off / 4 days on, 3 days off Fly in, fly out roster from Perth which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.
Reporting to the Operational Excellence Manager, and working in a supportive and collaborative environment, you will be:
Providing risk and capital portfolio insights to support business planning, including the annual plan.
Partnering with leaders to integrate risk considerations into operational decision-making, core business processes, and investment activities.
Promoting proactive risk management by offering support to the risk owners through trend monitoring, control effectiveness assessment, action management, and issue escalation.
Coordinating and overseeing the development of annual and 5-year capital portfolios.
Developing risk and capital acumen across the site.
Collaborating with capital stakeholders to provide guidance, report on status, and coordinate capital portfolio governance.
Championing and governing the Management of Change (MOC) process, providing coaching and support.
About you
A commitment to the safety of yourself and the team
A degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or related field will be highly regarded
Experience in Risk management, capital, process improvements or similar
Highly effective organisational, time management, problem-solving and analytical skills
Proven ability to communicate new ideas, influence stakeholders and manage conflict
Ability to work both autonomously and within a team
A high level of computer literacy including developing, automating, and managing spreadsheets, reports, and the ability to learn new software
Current C Class driver’s license (manual)

Where you’ll be working
Robe Valley Operations, located on Robe River Kuruma Country, is close to the community of Pannawonica in the scenic Pilbara region, approximately 200km south-west of Karratha. The operation comprises two key sites: Mesa A, which is primarily fly-in-fly-out, and Mesa J, which is strongly supported by a residential workforce living in Pannawonica.
Rio Tinto provides subsidised housing for residential employees and their families looking to enjoy a comfortable and laid-back lifestyle with modern amenities including a supermarket, cafe, medical centre, community gym, youth centre, and a primary school that also supports secondary education through supervised distance learning for older children.
Community groups provide sporting and social options for residents to get involved in, encouraging a unique balance between work and leisure for families and individuals residing in town.
