The Operational Excellence team at Weipa is seeking a skilled and experienced Business Improvement Superintendent to play a pivotal role in advancing the site’s strategic priorities. Reporting to the Manager - Operational Excellence, this position is ideal for a proven operational leader who is passionate about fostering innovation, enhancing productivity, and embedding best practices across operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate business improvement projects that directly align with Weipa’s strategic priorities and operational goals.
  • Collaborate closely with operational teams to uncover and implement opportunities for greater efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, providing mentorship and development in lean principles, problem-solving, and process optimisation.
  • Facilitate impactful workshops, training sessions, and improvement events to boost operational capability and knowledge-sharing.
  • Track, measure, and report on the progress and outcomes of improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with key business targets.
  • Uphold site-specific safety, environmental, and operational standards in all improvement activities.
  • Establish and maintain robust communication and engagement with stakeholders across all site operations.

What You’ll Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams, preferably within operational settings.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proven track record in leading projects, facilitating workshops, and coaching others towards successful outcomes.
  • A tertiary qualification in business, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Business Improvement certification, such as Green Belt, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent.
  • Background in mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry will be highly regarded

Work Location and Schedule

The Business Improvement Superintendent role operates on a 9-day fortnight roster, offering a balanced working arrangement. The successful candidate will be based on-site, providing consistent support at the Weipa and Amrun locations. It is anticipated that approximately 50% of the roster will involve travel to Amrun, ensuring strong engagement and effective collaboration with all site teams.
