The Opportunity
Help us set up our newest, open pit mining project! West Musgrave will be one of the world’s largest, lowest cost, lowest emissions copper-nickel projects. Our West Musgrave nickel-copper project is located on Ngaanyatjarra country, in the Musgrave Province of Central Western Australia, and includes the Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits and the Succoth copper deposit.
West Musgrave, which has a 26-year mine life, will be an owner-operator mining operation and in addition to being powered by ~80 per cent renewable energy, the Project scope includes a pathway to net zero Scope 1 emissions by 2038.
The Project will feature an Autonomous Haulage System and remote operations from day one and our workforce will be a flexible, technology enabled team supported by remote operations to improve safety outcomes and maximise opportunities for flexible working and diverse participation.

The Details:
Reporting through to the Manager – Asset Management your primary responsibility will be leading a highly competent technical team made up of Electrical, Reliability, Mechanical Engineers, Planners and schedulers to deliver processes and high level strategies for equipment maintenance and mine optimisation for the duration of the current Operation Readiness activities at the West Musgrave Operation.
With a strong focus on identifying threats and opportunities to mitigate risks as we move into stable operations you will have a ability to develop relationships at all levels of the organization and be adaptive in your thinking and the way you manage a team.
This role will be 5:2 Perth based during the Operations Readiness phase, during this time ad hoc / interim site travel may be required. Following this, the role will transition into a site based role, FIFO 8/6 roster from mid-2025
Key Responsibilities
This role forms a pivotal part of the ongoing success of optimizing the mining operations and will ensure West Musgrave reaches its full potential.
Core Deliverables:
- Build, empower, and retain a competent and capable workforce to develop and deploy the elements of Asset Management framework.
- Maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Cultivate a high-performance culture that aligns with BHP values and objectives.
- Manage and coordinate the development of engineering and asset management systems that will enable site base execution teams.
- Conduct studies that will support the cost effective running and maintenance of a highly unique and modern mining operation.
- Manage and configuration the data build for WMO’s asset in BHP Asset Performance Management tool (APM)
- Engage & Manage resources, labour, materials, and plant access for reliability and engineering projects.
- Ensure safety and quality control requirements are met for all planned work.
- Implement systems, processes, and procedures to improve equipment performance and sustainability.
- Deliver the maintenance strategy within operating and capital budgets
- Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and collaboration within the team.
About You
We are looking for a experienced mining professional with relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Electrical/Mechanical Degree, or other Engineering Discipline with transferable skills) who has: Experience in large scale open pit operations.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a relevant industry.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
- An understanding of JORC requirements.
- Strong background in reliability, planning, and scheduling.
- Project management and Experience in mine optimization experience.
- Ability to manage diverse teams in remote areas, considering logistical challenges.
- Proactive approach with exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
- Sound knowledge of maintenance strategy and RCM philosophies.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project.
- CMMS experience and proficiency (ideally D365).
- Budgeting and cost estimating skills.
