King of the Hills (KOTH) is the flagship operation of Vault Minerals Limited and one of the largest gold mines in Australia. Undergoing significant expansion, KOTH is nearing completion of a 7.5 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) processing plant (previously 5.2Mtpa), providing a solid platform for long-term production growth. This dynamic operation combines open-pit and underground mining, with exciting exploration activities driving the future. KOTH is located approximately 900 km northeast of Perth and 25 km north of Leonora, within the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Ventilation & Projects Engineer is responsible for focusing on the design, planning, and execution of projects related to infrastructure development and improvement within the mining environment. The primary focus of the role is Project Management of underground mining infrastructure and assorted improvement projects to ensure safe and efficient execution and implementation. The role comprises a statutory ventilation position in accordance with WHS obligations and responsibilities.

This position will be offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Periodically review, update, and enforce compliance to the Ventilation Management Plan.
  • Ensure statutory ventilation checks are done in line with industry best practice and at intervals mandated by the act and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and regularly review documented standard processes and systems for ventilation functions to ensure the mine is operating safely, efficiently and consistently across crews.
  • Conduct ventilation surveys at intervals mandated by the act, regulations and ventilation management plan and maintain ventsim model with real measurements.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of infrastructure projects with the mine.
  • Resolve any infrastructure-related issues and implement solutions to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Effectively manage change through documented change management processes such that records are available and accessible to justify decisions.
  • Provide engineering support to the underground mining operations.
  • Prepare safe, economic mine plans (including stope designs) are supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Complete financial evaluations and optimisations of planning and production activities to ensure the most economical plan is implemented based on available inputs.
  • Regularly challenge, review, and optimise mine production using knowledge gathered from previous work history, literature, conferences and or peer discussions.
  • Ensure all infrastructure services (ventilation, power, air, water) are maintained to ensure the safety and health of underground personnel.
  • Conduct regular and thorough inspections of all work areas to ensure compliance to site standards.
  • Provide technical review and feedback to mine planning functions such that the optimal mine plan is developed.

About You

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering (BEng) or equivalent qualification, with demonstrated experience and sound knowledge of underground mining operations, particularly within narrow-vein underground gold mining environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mine planning methodologies and forecasting processes across short, medium, and long-term timeframes. Experienced in developing and executing short to mid-term plans that integrate seamlessly with long-term mine planning commitments.
  • Proven understanding of mine ventilation systems and regulatory compliance, including the design, operation, and management of primary and secondary ventilation networks.
  • Basic understanding of geotechnical underground stress regimes and potential effects on ground movements.
  • Proficient use and application of MsOffice suite, and relevant mining software including but not limited to Deswik Suite and VentSim.
  • Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class).
