We are looking for a Platform Manager who will have overall responsibility for Workday. The role will need to partner with various teams across the organisation, including Business Stakeholders, Product Owners, and numerous teams in IS&T to ensure ongoing operations and continuous improvement of Rio Tinto’s core HR platform.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced leader with expertise in Workday platform management at a global scale to take accountability for managing the core technology supporting the HR function, overseeing platform health, service performance, and continuous platform improvement to ensure operational experience and ongoing service stability.

Reporting to the Manager – Business Platforms and Services and working in collaborative and supportive environment within our Technology Platforms division, you will:
- Be responsible for managing the Workday Platform including overseeing system health, performance, issue identification and resolution to deliver maximum availability
- Champion data security working with the security lead to verify cross application security policies are in place and followed
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place regarding security access considering the high sensitivity of the information within the platform. This applies to both non-production as well as production tenants
- Ensure integrations to Workday, as the single source of truth for HR data, follows Rio Tinto’s current standards to maintain data integrity
- Oversee the implementation of new features and functions in Workday in line with prioritised business needs
- Establish and maintain the processes involved in making configuration changes to Workday, including appropriate testing and change control procedures that align with a Tier 1 application
- Find and mitigate Workday platform risks to a level acceptable within Rio Tinto risk matrix
- Ensure platform DR plans are developed, agreed with the software vendor (Workday), regularly reviewed and maintained
- Oversee the twice-yearly Workday releases
- Identify and implement opportunities for system optimisation and efficiencies
- Stay abreast of Workday releases and updates to effectively manage their impact.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of a release and environment management calendar for Workday
- Managing relationships and outcomes with external vendors, including software providers and Outsourcing Partners
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- 10+ years working in IT operations, software development or DevOps environment ideal
- Demonstrated experience with end-to-end ownership of HR systems within an enterprise organisation, with global reach
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing both internal and outsourced resources
- Understanding of SaaS models
- Working with SaaS support structures
- Working in a partially or wholly outsourced environment, with multiple stakeholders
- Strong business engagement/stakeholder management expertise.
- Broad business process understanding with knowledge of impacts of business decisions and changes
