Find mining jobs across New South Wales including the Hunter Valley coalfields, Mudgee gold region and Broken Hill. Browse operator, engineering and trade roles in NSW.
New South Wales has a long mining history and remains one of Australia's most important mining states. The NSW mining sector spans coal, gold, copper, zinc and mineral sands, providing employment opportunities across both surface and underground operations throughout the state.
The Hunter Valley north of Newcastle is Australia's largest thermal coal export region, with dozens of open-cut and underground mines operating across the upper Hunter. The Mudgee and Orange districts host major gold and copper operations including Newmont's Cadia Valley — one of the world's largest underground gold mines. Broken Hill in the far west has been a mining centre for over 130 years, while the Cobar region supports copper and gold underground mining.
Many NSW mining jobs are residential or drive-in drive-out, particularly in the Hunter Valley where workers live in nearby towns like Singleton, Muswellbrook and Cessnock. Underground operations around Mudgee, Cobar and Broken Hill employ truck drivers, nippers, bogger operators and development crews. Surface coal mines hire excavator operators, haul truck drivers, maintenance fitters and electricians. FIFO from Sydney is available for some remote western NSW sites.
Major NSW mining employers include Yancoal, Glencore and Whitehaven Coal in the Hunter Valley coal sector. Newmont operates the large Cadia Valley gold-copper mine near Orange. Aurelia Metals and Aeris Resources run underground operations in the Cobar region. Underground contracting companies including Pybar and Barminco are active across the state's hard rock mines.
